The language of their fear; they looked upon their case as desperate, and gave up all for lost; they had received a sentence of death within themselves, and this they plead, We perish, if thou dost not save us; look upon us therefore with pity.. But as is often the case in the gospels, words like this are retained in the Christian community with added meaning. .(2:5-9).
